24th INTERNATIONAL SINGING COMPETITION FOR NEW VOICES FOR OPERA "GAETANO FRASCHINI"
PAVIA, November 5 - 9, 2025
The International Singing Competition for New Voices for Opera "Gaetano Fraschini", conceived and organized by the Circolo Pavia Lirica, is approaching its 24th edition.
The 23rd was held in 2022, while the first one dates back to 1976.
During these years, we can boast the presence of young singers, both winners and finalists, who have then become famous at a national and international level.
Among these, we can mention, in chronological order of participation: Denia Mazzola Gavazzeni, Fabio Armiliato, Michail Ryssov, Simone Alaimo, Giusy Devinu, Sun Xiu Wei, Marcelo Alvarez, Salvatore Licitra, Ambrogio Maestri.
These names are still present on the billboards of the most important theaters in the world: from La Scala in Milan to the Metropolitan in New York, from Covent Garden in London to the Rome Opera, from the Arena in Verona to the Paris Opera, from the Staatsoper in Vienna to the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, from the Real in Madrid to the San Carlo in Naples.
The Competition is open to opera singers of any nationality born after January 1, 1990 and who have reached the age of 18 by November 5, 2025. The Circolo Pavia Lirica reserves the right to select, among the participants in the Competition, performers for operas, opera selections, concerts or other lyric-musical events.
In the history of the Competition there have been competitors from all over the world: Spain, France, England, Yugoslavia, Romania, Bulgaria, Russia, United States, Argentina, China, Japan, Korea, Turkey, Switzerland, Paraguay, in addition, of course, to Italy.
The preliminary round and semi-final will be held at the headquarters of the Pavia Lirica club behind closed doors while the final will be held at the Teatro Fraschini in the presence of the public.
The event is therefore of international scope.
The Jury of the Competition, coordinated by a President, is composed of famous opera singers, internationally renowned musicians, artistic directors, agents, music critics and experts.
The 24th Competition will take place from 5 to 9 November 2025.

The competition is divided into three phases:
- Eliminatory rounds at the headquarters of the Pavia Lirica club on 5-6-7 November at 10 am behind closed doors
- Semi-final at the club headquarters on 8 November at 10 am behind closed doors.
- Final at the "Gaetano Fraschini" Theater in Pavia in the presence of the public on November 9th at 4 pm in the presence of the public
The Competition is advertised both through the posting of posters and flyers in public places, with advertisements in the specialized press, and by sending the posters and the rules by post to Conservatories, Music Schools, Music Institutes, Singing Teachers, Theaters, Musical Institutions, etc. in Italy and abroad.

The Final Evening at the Fraschini Theater will be presented by Marco Clerici.
The "Academy" Ballet Company of Pavia directed by Marilina Piemontese will perform during the event.
